The portal wpoznaniu.pl reports on a "breakthrough" — travel from Poznan to Berlin not only via PKP Intercity carriages but also on trains operated by the German competitor FlixTrain. A decision on the matter is expected this week.
Starting in December, FlixTrain trains would run from Warsaw to Berlin with a stop in Poznan.
I am not yet able to provide any information on this subject,
said Tomasz Frankowski, press spokesperson and head of the Public Communications Division at the Office of Rail Transport, the institution responsible for granting approval for the new connection.
I can only reveal that information on this matter should appear later this week.
The portal cites Michal Beim, a transport expert:
Unfortunately, I have no information on this matter. The Office of Rail Transport is examining the application, and the decision will be a kind of test of how much the authorities actually want to open this route to competing carriers.
As he explains, even if FlixTrain enters Polish tracks, from Poznan its carriages will only be available for travel to Berlin and back. One will no longer be able to ride them to Warsaw, despite the fact that trains heading toward the Polish capital will stop in Poznan. Any approval from the Office of Rail Transport in the context of Poznan would concern only connections to Berlin.
Aleksandra Fedorska commented on the information on the platform X:
